This ANZAC Day, as we honour Australia’s servicemen and women, we cannot forget the silent sacrifices made by families like Sally’s who care for their veteran when the battle comes home.
When Sally’s* husband, David*, saw 18 of his mates die in the devastating Black Hawk accident in 1996, the trauma left him broken and unable to continue with his service.
That was thirty years ago, and Sally has been by her husband’s side ever since, standing with him through trauma and supporting his healing.
But this journey has come at a heavy price. Twice, Sally has been hospitalised with severe depression, while their children, Tina* and Sam*, have struggled with school, anxiety, and emotional distress.
This is the devastating reality for many families of veterans impacted by trauma. While they bear the weight of their loved one’s suffering, they too experience financial hardship, social isolation, and mental health challenges.

All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. Eligibility for claiming tax deductible donations depends on your personal tax position.
Yes, tax receipts are provided for all donations.
If you are a Regular Giver, you will receive an annual donation summary at the end of each financial year. You can use your receipt to claim your tax deduction if you are eligible.
For one-off donations you will receive your donation receipt immediately to the email you provided while making your donation.
If you are a Regular Giver you can update all personal details by login into your Donor Account here.
If you like occasionally making one-off donations and would like to update your details for future fundraising communications, please contact us via supporters@melbournelegacy.com.au, or call us on (03) 8626 0500.
Your Regular Gift will start on the day you sign-up via our online form, and then on the same date of the month of your chosen frequency (month, quarterly, or yearly) until you choose to make any changes to your Regular Giving arrangement.
