Please help heal veterans’ families torn apart by PTSD

There’s something magical about the bond between humans and horses. Magical… and truly healing.
Just ask the more than 200 veterans and their family members who have benefited from equine assisted psychotherapy in the last 12 months alone.

This life-changing program works with veterans and their families to help them heal from the trauma of PTSD, anxiety and depression. It not only helps families to work through mental health trauma, it also provides the opportunity to rebuild relationships that have been tested to breaking point due to mental health issues.

It costs just $120 to sponsor one equine assisted therapy session for a veterans’ family.

The healing that can come from these horses and this remarkable psychotherapy program can be profound! From improved confidence and empathy to better impulse control and coping skills. Many of our families also tell us that their interpersonal relationships and parenting skills have improved dramatically and, as a result, there has been a reduction in family conflict.

“I have watched these beautiful horses work their magic on veterans who were initially sceptical, on widows tormented by grief, and on children who live with the often-devastating impact of their parents’ service,” says Melbourne Legacy case manager Emily.

The program helps decrease the symptoms of trauma, stress, depression and anxiety and improve resilience, mental health and physical wellbeing of veterans and families.
