2025 Widow's Christmas Concert

January 23, 2026

The Annual Widow’s Christmas concert is a highlight on the Melbourne Legacy calendar. The cherished event brings together over 250 widows for an afternoon of connection and joy.

Held at the iconic Melbourne Town Hall and proudly supported by the City of Melbourne, the concert facilitates an excellent array of live entertainment.

This year attendees were treated to performances by Moonglow, a renowned ensemble of talented musicians with an extensive repertoire spanning jazz, swing, and bebop. As well as the respected and much-loved Australian entertainment personality, Denis Walter. The day was made all the more special by the arrival of Santa and the Legacy Bear, in addition to the warm support from Melbourne Legacy volunteers.

Not just day of entertainment, the  concert’s festivities also foster relationships and a strong sense of community among the widows who travel from across the state to attend. The day is designed to promote connection and participation. Unallocated seating allows for engaging conversation and new friendships to form, which is a strong focus for Melbourne Legacy’s social support impact. Feedback from attendees echo this sentiment, expressing that a key highlight for many was meeting others and forming friendships.

Unfortunately for many widows, December can be a lonely time of year; with the risk of social isolation particularly heightened through the festive period, especially amongst the older community. Legacy ensures that all widows are supported to attend, with many attendees in their nineties and even hundreds.

The day is revered just as much by volunteers as it is by the widows, with one volunteer citing the day was truly enjoyable and “If [they] made one widow happy, then it was worth it”.

The Christmas Concert is made possible by generous donations from our supporters and our corporate sponsor, SCS Group. Another volunteer expressed gratitude for this generosity and hard work emphasising how much it means to them “to repay just some of what we owe to these brave Australians”.

Through events such as the Christmas Concert, Melbourne Legacy provides a welcoming and inclusive space that is much loved and valued by all widows who attend.

Events like this can't happen without the help of our dedicated volunteers. Whether you or someone you know loves pre-event logistics, hands-on involvement or the ability to spend some time getting to know incredible people, volunteering with Melbourne Legacy could be the perfect fit.
