How to Leave a Gift in Your Will
Leaving a bequest is simple, and your solicitor can guide you through the process. You can choose to leave a specific sum of money, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset such as shares or property.

Suggested Wording for Your Will:
As a guide, Melbourne Legacy recommends the following wording for general bequests:
‘I give the whole/residue* of my estate to Melbourne Legacy of 293 Swanston Street, Melbourne, Victoria, ABN 78 043 769 632 for its general purposes (or specific purposes) of such fund and the receipt of any one of the Directors for the time being of such fund shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.’
‘I give sum of/percentage* (the actual amount should be written in words and in numbers) to Melbourne Legacy of 293 Swanston Street, Melbourne, Victoria, ABN 78 043 769 632 for its general purposes (or specific purposes) of such fund and the receipt of any one of the Directors for the time being of such fund shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees.’
Where can I seek Legal Advice?
If you haven’t made contacted a Conveyancing adviser, we recommend The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV), which offers a service called Find Your Lawyer Referral Service.
