Alongside services such as the Dawn Service and Commemoration March, Melbourne Legacy ensures that we educate the next generation through the ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for Students. This ceremony provides an opportunity for young people to reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice, and to develop a deeper understanding of the history that has shaped Australia.
Today, Australia is a diverse and multicultural nation, made up of people from many different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. The values that underpin the ANZAC spirit, such as courage, resilience and mateship, continue to bring Australians together. These shared values remind us that while our society has grown and changed, the principles of standing by one another and persisting in trying times remain central to our national identity.

This remembrance not only applies to conflicts from the past. Many of the families Melbourne Legacy helps today are connected to veterans who have served in recent conflicts, including the Korean War, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and peacekeeping operations worldwide. This means that the experiences of service, sacrifice, and loss are not distant historical events, but realities that continue to affect Australian families today.
Because of this, educating children and young people about the realities of war and modern conflict is especially important. Helping students understand the sacrifices made by service personnel as well as the challenges faced by their families encourages empathy, respect, and awareness. It also encourages young Australians to reflect on the values demonstrated by the ANZACs who have served in the past and continue to serve today.
Melbourne Legacy warmly invites all schools in Victoria to attend this special day of remembrance and commemoration. Read more about the day and secure your spot below.
