Melbourne Legacy Reignites Partnership with Accenture

August 29, 2025

As Melbourne Legacy renews its partnership with Accenture, we pause to reflect on the extraordinary innovation, support, and volunteer spirit they brought to the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay, while looking ahead to shaping a future-focused strategy for veteran families.

Melbourne Legacy is proud to be partnering once again with Accenture, a global leader in digital transformation and strategic consulting. This renewed collaboration comes after the extraordinary contribution Accenture made as the Digital Enablement Partner for the Legacy Centenary Torch Relay in 2023, and signals an exciting new chapter in our shared mission to support the families of veterans.

When Accenture first partnered with Legacy in 2022, the challenge was clear: how can we bring to life a century-old tradition in a way that was meaningful, engaging, and accessible to people all over the world? Their answer was to combine innovation with community spirit.

Accenture designed and delivered a capability that allowed users to track the iconic Legacy Torch in real time as it travelled through more than 65 locations across the globe. The tracker became an engagement magnet, encouraging people to attend relay events in their local communities and prompting donations to support the families of veterans. For our events management team, Accenture also created a companion app that enabled live torch tracking behind the scenes, ensuring the smooth delivery of such a complex, international relay.

Alongside the technology, Accenture helped Legacy connect with the heart of the relay - its community. Together, we co-created a web portal that captured over 1,500 applications from eager torch bearers, ranging in age from 13 to 105 from across the country. With Accenture’s analytics and reporting tools, Legacy was able to carefully review and prioritise each submission, ensuring every torch bearer reflected the diversity and resilience of the veteran family community.

The partnership didn’t stop at technology. Accenture staff threw themselves into the spirit of the event, contributing more than 2,000 volunteer hours across 19 locations worldwide. Their people made up a whopping 13 per cent of all volunteers, with over 130 employees donning Legacy shirts to lend a hand. Locally, 28 volunteers supported the Melbourne leg of the relay, and four Accenture staff were honoured as torch bearers. From Melbourne to Mornington, Toowoomba to the world stage, the impact of their commitment was felt everywhere the Legacy Torch travelled.

Now, as Melbourne Legacy looks to the future, we are delighted to once again partner with Accenture. This time, the focus is on strategy rather than logistics. Accenture will serve as strategic facilitators in developing Melbourne Legacy’s renewed organisational strategy, bringing the same vision, expertise, and energy that defined their work during the Centenary Torch Relay.

Accenture’s history with Legacy is a story of innovation meeting compassion, of technology used not for its own sake but to connect people and amplify impact. Their contribution to the relay helped ensure the families of veterans were not only honoured but placed at the centre of one of the most significant commemorations in our organisation’s history. With this renewed partnership, we look forward to building on that foundation and shaping a future where every veteran family has the support they deserve.
