Wrapping up a huge Legacy Week 2025

September 14, 2025

This year, thanks to the generous support of countless ADF personnel, dedicated Legatees, volunteers, corporate supporters and the general public, we have raised over $185,000 for the families of veterans.

Once again, the people of Victoria demonstrated that they stand beside the families of veterans who have lost their loved one's life or health through service. From August 31 to September 6, Melbourne Legacy and Legacy clubs from around Australia took to the streets to raise awareness and much needed funds to deliver our lifechanging services for those who need it most.

Kicking off with a Parliament of Victoria Legacy Week event, the week leading up to Father's Day was a time to reflect on the silent sacrifices continually made by the families of veterans who are too often overlooked. Carrying their own weight from service, Legacy is dedicated to ensuring that they are not left to suffer the long term effects of their loved one's service alone.

The team from Melbourne Legacy was welcomed by our generous corporate partners, BAE for morning teas across their offices in Melbourne CBD and Richmond, which were widely attended by staff, many of whom have a direct link to service or Legacy. Our friends at AGL also hosted a Legacy Week morning tea and provided a space for our hugely popular Jet Airforce Bear to roam around and have photos with staff and the public.

One of the biggest contributions to the week came from our dedicated ADF volunteers from across Victoria Barracks, Simpson Barracks and RAAF Base Williams. No matter which corner of the Melbourne CBD you crossed, people were greeted by the enthusiastic uniformed personnel who were proud to sell Legacy badges and bears in support of our programs and services.

The weekend at the close of Legacy Week saw Bunnings Warehouse stores across the state come alive with Legatees and cadet volunteers raising money and spreading the word about Melbourne Legacy's services. Bunnings Hawthorn was even activated by the 5/6 Batallion, Royal Vicotiran Regiment Pipes and Drums band, drawing interested crowds from the streets to support Legacy.

Once again, Melbourne Legacy would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who donated, bought a bear or badge, volunteered their time, shared a post on social media or just had a conversation with a loved one about why families of veterans still need our support.

And just because Legacy Week is over, doesn't mean there isn't still opportunity to grab your bear or badge, or make a donation! Head over to our shop or click to donate today - every gift has an impact.
