Vietnam Widows celebrated at High Tea event

August 31, 2025

Almost 100 Vietnam-era widows came together at the opulent Windsor Ballroom for a High Tea event celebrating the resilience of their community.

Each year, Melbourne Legacy hosts events for our widow communities to ensure they remain connected and are acknowledged for the sacrifices that not only their loved ones made through service, but the impact that they have had to carry throughout their lives.

As the cohort of widows from the Vietnam War continue to grow, the once small gathering at Legacy House was this year shifted to the Windsor Hotel Ballroom, with close to a hundred Vietnam widows trekking from across the state to come together with their community to celebrate their resilience.

Following a service of delicious food and ample opportunity for reconnection between the widows who have come to know each other well, Chaplain Fr Brendan Quirk captivated guests with his personal stories and insight into the role of a Chaplain during war time.

The event had an overwhelmingly positive response and we look forward to continuing to foster the community of Vietnam widows and partners of Vietnam veterans.
